Hello every one . i need some help . I am making a horror film that involves a lot of zombies and a lot of head cracking martial arts . There is one thing i need though and thats fake swords. By fake swords , i mean the oriental type of sword that you would find in films like BLADE , CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON , etc. If someone could tell me where i could obtain these weapons , i would be most greatful and would give you a screen credit for supplying the weapons. And maybe even some sherbert . if your nice.

If you find the right places, you can buy the swords...

They are expensive though... about ?100 + for a decent one...

There is a good shop in Yarmouth (a costal town in the UK) that sells swords, guns, crossbows and fishing gear...

    Hope this helps.

are you going to be hitting them against each other?

If not you could make them out of wood, with fancy handles made out of paper mache, clay, scraps of cloth, gaffer tape, with thin wooden blades painted dark silver.

Perhaps use a real sword blade and your home made fancy handles for close ups?

Dub on sound effects afterwards. You can get the audience to follow the action through the sound, rather than watching the images, if its cut fast.

I watched a very stylish opera the other night (Don Giovanni) with an effective sword fight, built up entirely from editing. The two actors are opera singers not stage fighters. The sword fight was made up mostly of close ups - showing the actors face and sword arm swishing around (kind of POV of the enemy), with a couple of wide shots for continuity.

Very effective and actually quite beautiful.

If you live anywhere near a Chinatown they have those sorts of swords in shops. They're vc (very cool), but about $50 a pop, for a dagger. You can go into those shops for an idea, and do the papier mache thing. If you don't live near a Chinatown, look on the internet for pics. Hope I helped

Another thought...if you want a blade check out www.triplette.com, they're a company that sells fencing swords, and they have a stage fighting section. Get a blade and create your hilt from cardboard, etc., or pay about $100 and get the whole shibang. Then you get your real blade, but without a high risk of injury. But tell your actors to be prepared for bruises, oh, and if you get a blade, just fyi, they have a black nub on the end unless you get electric, but the nub is pretty easy to take off.
